ON THE MOVE
After San Diego, John spent many years in San Francisco working for Union Bank. Spending time with his partner Phil and his son Brett allowed for a great work/life mix before it was popular. Travel, bicycle rides, Alta Plaza Restaurant, and classical music all made this time enjoyable. As his son Brett once said, “It was an adult Disneyland.” John finished his career in San Francisco as the VP of Trusts and began to expand his journeys around the world. Multiple stops in Europe, Indonesia, Tahiti, Hawaii, and the Caribbean with an indication of things to come. They were explored as long as it did not get in the way of studying Art while starting on his painting adventure.
The final 30 years of John’s life were spent with a focus on travel and art. He was able to enjoy both, and found his greatest happiness when the two could be combined with the beauty of surrounding nature. Travel and work allowed John and his spouse, David, to live in California, Connecticut, Italy, Florida, and finally in Washington while traveling to Asia, Australia, South America, and throughout most of Western Europe. Walking through an outdoor exhibit in Rome, resting in the shade on a beach in Tahiti, climbing a mountain in Peru, or going to an art show in the vineyards outside Melbourne gave him pure joy.
